David Wagner Obituary

Janesville, WI - David Francis Wagner, age 90, of Janesville, WI, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, September 27, 2025. He was born on May 25, 1935, in Ashton, WI to Alphonse and Sylvina Wagner.

After leaving the family farm, David proudly served in the U.S. Army. He often joked that he and his fellow soldiers 'kept Kansas safe from foreign invaders'. After his service, he returned to Wisconsin, met and married his wife Caroline and settled in Janesville where they raised their 4 children. He built a successful real estate company when he eventually retired in 2000.

David was a devoted member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church, where he sang in the choir and generously gave his time and talents. He was deeply involved in his community, serving as president of the Janesville Jaycees, the Janesville Noon Lions and the Janesville Serra Club. He is most proud of his work with the Lions Club where he raised funds for ALS and organized eyeglass mission trips to Mexico and Honduras. His Leadership and volunteerism touched many lives.

In retirement, he and his wife Caroline traveled the world together and continued to help those in need. David was also an avid gardener and a master woodworker. He created many beautiful works of art for his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Caroline; his children Jeffrey (Karen) Wagner, Sandra (Glenn Jenkins) Wagner, Thomas (Deanne) Wagner and Jennifer (Shaun Smith) Wagner; his grandchildren Reid, Brad, Brooke, Samuel, Sarah, Severin and Tess; and his siblings Roseann, Ray and Greg. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Stephen.

Visitation will be held on Thursday October 2, 2025, from 10am to 12:00pm followed by a Funeral Mass from 12:00pm at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 1250 East Racine St. Janesville, WI 53545.
