MADISON, WI - Dennis D. Skogen, age 79, of Madison, passed away on Thursday, June 5, 2025. He was born on December 22, 1945, in Janesville, Wis., to Verna (Buehl) and Orin Skogen.
Dennis was a graduate of Janesville Senior High School and the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he received a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering. After employment at Gilman Engineering and Manufacturing in Janesville and Gisholt Machine Tool Company in Madison, he worked with Professor Archie Easton at Easton and Associates, later founding Safety Engineering and Associates, and finally founded Skogen Engineering Group, Inc., at which he worked until his death. He was a Registered Professional Engineer in Wisconsin and a member of the State and National Societies of Registered Professional Engineers. He was also a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the American Society of Agricultural Engineers and the National Safety Council.
Mr. Skogen was a founding and active member of Madison Torske Klubben and was a member of the Sons of Norway. Mr. Skogen was also a lifetime member of the Wisconsin Alumni Association, the Wisconsin Union, and the Experimental Aircraft Association. He was a member of Moose Lodge No. 197 in Janesville and a member of the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity at the University of Wisconsin in Madison.
Survivors include his wife, Judith Skogen; four sons, Sean (Nanette) Skogen of Denver, Colo., Justin (Gail) Skogen of Golden, Colo., Nathan Skogen of Orlando, Fla., David Henzie-Skogen of Los Angeles, Calif.; three daughters, Heather (Steve) Gullickson of Punta Gorda, Fla., Jennifer (Rob) Hankes of Warrenville, Ill., and Elizabeth Skogen of Madison; his grandchildren, Madi, Josi, Tristan, Skyler, Graham, Gavin, Griffin, Grady and Zoe; brother, Gerald (Sharon) Skogen of Frankfort, Ky.; and many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Orin Skogen and Verna (Buehl) Skogen.
A funeral service will be held at BETHEL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 312 Wisconsin Ave., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 20, 2025. Family and friends who wish to view the service via LIVESTREAM may visit Dennis' obituary page at
