Eldyn G. Dorst

1937 - 2026

Janesville, WI - Eldyn G. Dorst, age 88, of Janesville, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2026, at Alden Meadow Park, Clinton. He was born on Nov. 16, 1937, in Harvard, IL, to the late Eugene J. and Elsie A. (Kohls) Dorst. Eldyn served his country in the U.S. Navy enlisting in Aug. 1960 where he served on the U.S.S. Ranger Aircraft Carrier and then was honorably discharged in July 1964. Eldyn loved to share stories of his time in the Navy. On Apr. 27, 1974, Eldyn would marry Susan K. Eichman Babcock, the love of his life, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Beloit.

He worked for many years at McClarey Industries as a mechanic and also worked at Blain's Farm and Fleet. Eldyn was a devoted Christian and member of the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, where faith and family were paramount. Eldyn lived by the principles of service and sacrifice, always putting others before himself. He lived his life anchored in faith and served his Lord with a steadfast heart. He was also a member of VFW Post 3143 in Rhinelander, WI. Eldyn's love for fishing, hunting, and the Brewers was something he shared with his children. He was a jack of all trades - always looking to make things better.

Eldyn is survived by his wife of almost 52 years, Susan Dorst; children, David (Heather) Babcock of Janesville and Jason (Ava) Dorst of Beloit; grandchildren: Colleen Adams, Dawson (Jessica) Babcock, Emily Babcock, Remington Babcock, and Dominik Dorst; 2 siblings: Emory (Nancy) Dorst of Mosinee and Earl (Laurie) Dorst of Omro; sister-in-law Vickie Dorst of Fond du Lac; nieces, nephews, and other family. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother Edward Dorst.

We would like to thank the wonderful staff at Mercy Hospital, Mercy Hospice, and Alden Meadow Park for their compassion and exceptional care that they provided to Eldyn. A special thank you to Pastor Dave Bergelin for his guidance and presence as we navigated this difficult time. We also wish to thank Debi Giambruno, a treasured family friend, for the devotion and friendship she gave to Eldyn. We find comfort in knowing that his legacy lives on through the lessons he taught us, the love he shared, and the memories we will cherish forever.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Mar. 9, 2026, at 11:00 AM at MT. CALVARY LUTHERAN CHURCH, Janesville with Pastor David Bergelin officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM on Monday at CHURCH until time of service. Burial with full military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Mar. 10, 2026, in the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Union Grove.
