John Fitzgerald Obituary
John met his wife Arlene while they both attended UW-Whitewater. They were married on Jan. 20, 1969, and raised 2 children in Janesville. John had a 35-year career as a Social Worker with Rock County Health and Human Services - helping those in the community.
John enjoyed woodworking and construction. He completely remodeled their home and outbuildings over the span of 40 years and enjoyed refurbishing furniture. He enjoyed landscaping, gardening, and travel. John also volunteered his time in the community and he was most proud of his contribution to the construction of Peace Park in Janesville.
John was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Robert and Michael, sisters Virginia Vondra and Kathleen Spahn, brother-in-law Eldon Vondra, sister-in-law Beverly Fitzgerald, and father and mother-in-law Norman and Edna Schroeder.
John is survived by his wife of 58 years Arlene, children Scott Fitzgerald (Becky Veenstra) and Denise (Matt) Jones, grandchildren: Kyle Pierson (Victoria Booth), Anthony (Megan) Pierson, Lauren Fitzgerald, Carson Fitzgerald, and Kyle Jones, great grandson Myles Pierson, brothers Tim (Mary) Fitzgerald and Dennis (Anita) Fitzgerald, sister-in-law Sharon Fitzgerald, brother-in-law Stan Spahn, and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11:30 AM on Friday, Feb. 13, 2026, at APFEL WOLFE FUNERAL HOME, Janesville with Military Honors to follow. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM on Friday until time of service at the FUNERAL HOME. Memorials are appreciated to The Gifts Men's Shelter in Janesville. Online condolences at www.apfelwolfe.com
