Janesville, WI - Rosemary Cash, age 99, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2025, at Cedar Crest in Janesville, Wisconsin. Born on July 10, 1926, in Janesville, she was the cherished daughter of John P. Fleming and Margaret Jane (Gannon) Fleming. A proud graduate of Janesville High School, Rosemary remained deeply rooted in her hometown throughout her life.
She worked as the Executive Secretary for the Janesville Gazette and led the Good Samaritan Annual Fundraiser for many years, reflecting her lifelong commitment to helping others, retiring in 1986 after a distinguished career. Even in retirement, Rosemary remained a devoted reader of the Gazette, clipping and collecting recipes weekly to build a treasured culinary archive. Her legendary date nut bread, always baked with love, was a favorite among family and friends.
Rosemary was a longtime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Her Catholic faith was a cornerstone of her life where she found peace in prayer, strength in sacraments, and joy in serving her parish community. Her trust in God's grace carried her through life's trials with quiet courage. Her nurturing spirit and knack for hospitality made her a beacon of warmth in every room she entered. She found joy in the simple pleasures: Hallmark movies, Little House on the Prairie, and cheering on her beloved Chicago Cubs with unwavering loyalty. Her compassionate nature extended to everyone she met. Whether through a warm meal, a handwritten note, or a kind word, Rosemary made others feel seen and cared for.
In 2005, Rosemary and her sister Margaret moved from their family home of 75 years on Eisenhower Avenue to the apartments at Cedar Crest, where Rosemary lovingly cared for Margaret as her health declined. After Margaret's passing, Rosemary continued to offer comfort and companionship to others in the nursing home, becoming a favorite among staff and residents alike. She lived independently until the age of 94, always appreciative and never one to complain.
Rosemary was known for her joyful spirit and signature phrases, "swell," "Come again!" and "Happy Everyday" which she shared generously with loved ones. She faithfully sent Christmas and birthday cards well into her 90s, a testament to her thoughtfulness and enduring connections.
She is survived by Kelly and Kathy McCarthy, Megan (Jesse) Cline, Jack Cline, Leann (Robb) Harris, Kayden Harris, Bruce and Colleen Rau, Laura (Cody) Hanson, Amelia and Hazel Hanson, Blake Witkowski, Rachael Rau, Julie Rau, Scott and Rosemary Gerarden, Sarah and Ashley (Bailey) Gerarden, Kathleen (John) Holz, James (Denise) Cash, Bob (Joan) Cash, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
