David Aasen Obituary
Dave passed away with family by his side on November 11, 2024. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 45 years Valerie Suzanne Aasen, youngest son Anton William Aasen (Paige), and sister Illyana McManus (Terry). Dave is survived by three other children he shared with Valerie; Amy Clymo (Justin), Adam Aasen (Shaylyn), and Alexander Aasen (Swantje); and 12 grandchildren.
Dave was born in Fort Worth, Texas to his parents Donald and Ernestine Aasen. As the son of a career Air Force fighter pilot, he spent the first 17 years of his life living on military bases across the United States. While stationed at Luke Air Force Base in Arizona, Dave's mother tragically died after a heartbreaking battle with cancer. He was only thirteen years old. While childhood tragedy undoubtedly impacted his life, it did not alter the man he became--selfless leader, loving husband and father, and a genuinely good person.
As a young man, Dave volunteered to serve in the United States Army during a tumultuous and controversial period in American History. He spent twelve months of his service in Vietnam as a Radio Intelligence Operator. After his military service, Dave bought a red 1971 MG convertible and drove across the country with his Boxer Max to California where he met his wife Valerie and they spent the majority of their lives together. His daughter-in-law Paige still drives the MG today.
After marrying in California and having their first two children, Dave and Valerie moved to Arizona where he earned his master's degree in business from Arizona State University. Shortly after their third child Alex was born, they moved back to California where they had Anton and spent the rest of their lives raising their family. Dave joined California Roofing Company in the early 1980's and devoted over 30 years of his life as a business owner and day-to-day leader. Dave was a selfless and caring business owner who always put employees first. He worked tirelessly to provide for his wife and children while also supporting his extended California Roofing family.
Dave rarely smiled in pictures, but he loved laughing and telling jokes. He struggled with expressing emotion, but would give you the shirt off of his back. He would go to work at 4 am and then battle traffic in the afternoon to attend and coach his children's events. He was known by family as the "baby whisperer" because his calming nature effortlessly soothed grandchildren in distress. Dave was the husband, father, grandfather, friend, and boss we all want in our lives.
