Chester Baker Obituary

Chester Allen Baker

October 23, 1947 - September 15, 2021

Chester Allen Baker passed away peacefully at home, with his wife and daughter by his side, following a long, hard battle from complications of Agent Orange.

He was born in Bakersfield, California, to Robert and Carolyn Baker and attended Foothill High School. Following graduation he served in the Army as a SGT in Vietnam. He was an animal specialist, caring for the injured service animals.

After Vietnam, he returned to Bakersfield and worked as a Sheriff Deputy, before working on the railroad alongside his father and brother for several years.

He then followed his parents to Colorado in the 1980's so he could hunt and fish, which was his passion. During this time he felt a greater need to care for people, and became a nurse. He worked many years in the area hospitals, finally retiring from the VA in 2015.

He also had a lifelong love of motorcycles, developed many friendships, and took many "road" trips with his buddies. Among them was his best friend, John Warner.

Survivors include his wife, Lynn; brothers, Tom (Susan) Baker, Ralph (Mary) Baker, and Ken Baker; daughter, Lisa (Dennis) Misener; step-daughter, Shawn (Brian) Clayton; step-son, Daniel (Nouveau) Batchelor; grandchildren, Ashley (Toby) Pierce, Misty McCollum, Mike (Sheri) Pierce, Ashly Baker, Briana Maston, Cody (Taryn) Maston, Brooklyn Batchelor, Serenity and Aidan Batchelor; numerous great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews, cousins, and aunt and uncle.

Predeceased are his parents, and his sister, Bobbi Maxwell.

A special thank you goes out to HopeWest for their excellent care and compassion during this difficult time. Donations may be made to HopeWest, in lieu of flowers.

Military Honor service will be held October 5, 1:00 p.m., at the Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Chester Baker was one of those rare people whose good-natured personality and all around optimism made him unforgettable even more than half a century later. We took algebra together in our freshman year at Bakersfield High, but then became high school (but remained JBA) baseball opponents when he transferred to newly opened Foothill High for his sophomore year. We remained cordial acquaintances through the rest of our high school years, as he had the distinction of being a member of Foothill´s second graduating class. I have often wondered where Chester went and have missed him. Now I know I will not see him again on this Earth, but also know that he is resting in peace. Blessings to his family and friends.
