Joan Phillps Obituary

Joan Fetters Phillips

October 14, 1933 - May 10, 2022

With family present, Joan Fetters Phillips, 88, died from dementia on May 10, 2022, in her Grand Junction home.

A staunch Democrat married to a steadfast Republican for 51 years, she was a farm wife, mother of four, patriot, master gardener, bookkeeper, bridge player and wildflower watcher who loved toast, road trips, the Rocky Mountains, British dramas and politics. And she continued to be a die hard Denver Broncos fan even as her disease progressed, mesmerized by football on the TV, although she could no longer communicate.

Born in 1933, Joan spent most of her early life in Ft. Lupton, Colorado. She married Bob Phillips in 1961, settling on the family fruit farm in Cedaredge. They raised four children, Randy, Susan, Heidi and Greg. After retiring, Joan and Bob moved to Grand Junction in 2006, where Bob died in 2013. Joan is survived by her four children, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. The family will spread her ashes over wildflowers on Grand Mesa this summer.
