Larry C. Whiteman

Larry C. Whiteman September 10, 1936 - July 7, 2006 Larry lost his battle with cancer at his new home in Fruita CO on July 7, 2006 at the age of 69. Larry was born in Pasadena, CA to G. Kenneth and Berenice Whiteman. The family lived in Pasadena briefly before returning to Hayden, CO. Larry and his brother and sister grew up on the family Registered Hereford and Commercial cattle ranch started by their father. Larry attended Colorado State University majoring in Animal Husbandry-Animal Production. During his years at CSU Larry was a member of the Farmhouse Fraternity, on the Livestock Judging Team, active in the Livestock Club, and was on the CSU Student Legislature. After graduating Larry partnered with his father on the Whiteman Hereford Ranch west of Hayden. During these years he judged numerous livestock fairs and shows, and was president of the Routt County Cattlemen's Association. These years also brought his marriage to Cheryl Chytry of Meeker. Larry and Cheryl enjoyed the rodeo traveling throughout the western slope of CO. His love was calf roping and team roping. The ranch was sold and Larry moved his family, which now included two children, to a home north of Craig. Along with being a loving husband and father, he started his own business known as Professional Agri Service. He was a Broker and Farm and Ranch Appraiser for 35 years, served on the Yampa Valley Electric Board, and was active in the CO Chapter American Society Farm and Ranch Appraisers and Managers. Larry especially enjoyed the annual 1950's CSU A&M Livestock and Rodeo Club reunions in Laughlin, NY. In 1991 Larry and Cheryl moved to the Grand Valley area and Larry continued his business working out of his home. In addition to his wife of 45 years, Larry is survived by his two children, Shawn and his wife Piper of Showlow AZ; and Brenda and her husband, Todd of Golden Colorado; and three grandchildren, Sean Clayton Whiteman of Phoenix; and Erika and Jake Bergstrom of Golden. He is also survived by his brother, Lynn and his wife, Marilynn of Meeker; and his sister, Janet and her husband, Pete Fogale of Sterling, CO. Memorial services will be held Saturday, July 15th at 1 :00 at the Callahan-Edfast Mortuary, 2515 Patterson Road, Grand Junction. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado, PO Box 60307, Grand Junction, CO 81506.
