Mark Adix Obituary

Mark Adix

October 16, 1950 - May 10, 2021

Mark Adix, born in Postville, Iowa, to Hope and Paul Adix, was a social worker of extraordinary compassion, especially for youth. He grew up with his sister, Paula, in Britt, Iowa. He died following a hard-fought illness, with the love of his life, Gail, at his side.

Besides Gail, Mark leaves behind sister, Paula (David) Harbage; children, Alleah Adix, Travis (Heidi) Cox, Amanda (Bob) TenEyck, and Tyler (Kristen) Cox; grandchildren, Garrick, Owen, Arabella, Adalyn, Jordan, Brexten, and Brysen and their beloved dog, Bentley. His parents, Hope and Paul, preceded him in death.

Mark received a Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy in 1973, from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. He then received a Master of Arts in counseling in 1984 from the University of Iowa in Iowa City.

In 1992, Mark moved to Grand Junction to begin sharing his life with Gail and her children. He felt a deep connection with nature and hiked the surrounding trails of the Grand Valley with Gail and their dogs. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, biking, walking the beach at Marco Island, playing his guitar, and woodworking, for which he had a true gift. He was a special man and will be missed.

Mark retired in 2014 from the Division of Youth Corrections, where he worked for 16 years and had a positive impact on many young lives.

Gail and the family would like to extend a special thank you to friends and neighbors for their loving support during Mark's final months, and especially to Hospice and HopeWest for the wonderful care they provided.

A celebration of life for family members is being planned in Mark's memory.

worked with Mark thru the courts (I was division clerk for Judge Bottger) & my husband who worked at DYC also worked with him. He loved those juveniles and I know had a lasting impression on their lives.

I am so sorry I did not know that Mark had passed. He was always so kind and compassionate in his job and taught me so much about professionalism and good will towards others. I always considered him a friend! Gail and family I'm sending my prayers and positive energy to you! Peace and love, Kim

The Matthew Family

June 9, 2021

When one of our family members had a medical emergency some years ago, Mark and Gail were the first to offer help by taking care of our dog Mojo for a considerable amount of time while we were out of town. After we got home, whenever Mojo saw Mark down the street he'd take off in a run to greet him, tail wagging all the way. Mark's kindness and care were never forgotten by Mojo or by us.
We send our sincere regrets on the loss of this wonderful friend and neighbor.
