Michael Saunders Obituary

Michael Robert Saunders March 13, 1958 - December 9, 2009 The family of Mike Saunders would like to say goodbye to our beloved son, brother, nephew, cousin, uncle, and friend. Thank you for sharing your life and love with us as we grew up together as a family. You will now live in our hearts and our memories will last each of us until we meet again. Mike was born March 13th, 1958 and grew up on the family homestead in Mack, CO. During his early years, he enjoyed the outdoors, especially being bossed around by his older sister. He was an outdoors kid, and there was not a day that went by that Mike was not dirty and muddy. Growing up he was an avid fisherman, hunter, and outdoorsman. He loved motorcycling with his parents and siblings. Childhood brought him many happy memories which always included his family. He was especially close to his many cousins, which he cherished them to the end. During high school Mike was on the wrestling team and graduated from Fruita Monument in 1976. During his early adulthood, he began a career in construction and became a skilled craftsman. He enjoyed construction and soon ventured into the oil field industry. He was blessed with the opportunities to travel to Africa, and all over the world. Mike went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, December 9th, 2009. Mike is preceded in death by his grandparents, Ernest and Ruth Hodson, and Roe and Lois Saunders. He is also preceded in death by his aunt Mag Marinelli, cousin Tom Hodson, and grandson, Justin. Mike is survived by his wife Mary Saunders of Grand Junction, CO, 2 adopted daughters, parents Robert (Bob) and Virgina Saunders of Mack, CO., 3 sisters Connie (Chris) Bennetts, of Fruita, Tammy (Jon) Murch of Glade Park, Christina (James) Hancock of Grand Junction. Please accept my sympathies.

I have not seen Mike in many years. But I can not thinking of growing up in Loma, going to Loma Elementary, Fruita Junior High or Fruita Monument High School, without recalling Mike.

I hope that your memories of him will help in the coming days.

Dear Michael,
I loved you so very much. I am so sad to lose you. I have great memories of when you, Connie, Tom and I played out at Babo and Grams place with the calves and cows, and even Priscilla the donkey. Now you are with Tom and I hope you are very peaceful. My heart is broken. I will always miss your quiet smile. I love you.

Please accept our most heartfelt sympathies for your loss…our thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time.
I can truely say that Mike is one, of small group of people, that I can call a true friend.
We shared a lot of laughs, smiles and good times (back in the day)! I have never know anyone who cold say so little, while saying it all, with his smile and clever wit. While the years had separated us, I now realize how close we were as I feel a huge void with his passing. May my good friend be smiling down on all of us!
