In 1946 they bought a small unfinished house in Fruitvale where many who were also veterans lived in tents as they built homes.
Carl worked at Enstrom Ice Cream Co and later became a Rural Mail Carrier. Mildred had a small daycare in their home and still is beloved by some of the children. My "little Mommy" I will never forget - she and Carl took care of me from age 3 to 14. My Mother was a working unwed mother and I live with Mildred & Carl 5 days a week and I'm so very GRATEFUL that I had their love. She helped me be the person I am today. Mickey Mouse, was Carl's nickname for her. Bless them both forever!
