Joseph Lawson Obituary

Mr. Joseph Lawson died peacefully on April 26, 2016, at the age of 76. Joe is survived by wife, Patricia Lawson, as well as his four children - Christine Harper (Gary), Laura Lawson (Will), Jaime Porres (Edwin), and Michael Lawson (Nicole) and grandchildren Kelsey Harper, Randy Harper, Kate Atwater, Nora Atwater, and Graham Lawson. Joe was born on August 3, 1939, in Las Vegas, Nevada, to Charles and Berniece Lawson. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, with a Bachelor of Architecture in 1965. He married Patricia in1962. Six years later, they moved to southern California where he began a thirty-year career as a planner with the City of Los Angeles Community Redevelopment Agency. He took great pride in his accomplishments and worked with many good people. He found an outlet for his architectural interests in the ongoing renovations and improvements to their home. In addition to his busy work and family life, Joe also enjoyed gardening and working on model trains, stained glass, and pottery. He and Pat had a very full life of hobbies and travel. Joe was always telling jokes and enjoyed making people feel comfortable. There will be a private family gathering to celebrate Joe's life. Funeral Directors - www.CrippenMortuary.com

With a smile on his face, a gentle word in your ear, and a very sound piece of advice is how I will remember Joe. We worked together for 21 years, and stayed in touch for 10 years afterwards. He was a kind and loving man. He is gone, but never forgotten.

One of the most lovable, gregarious, charming co-worker I had the privilege to work with. When I think of Joe I hear his laughter, always one to have a smile on his face. His soul is free to be with God. Love you Joe.

I was fortunate to have worked with Joe at the CRA/LA. He was never freaked by the weirdness of pressure. He was true to our AFSCME units. He will be missed.

Christine and Family,
Please accept my heartfelt sympathy. May your faith and hope in the scriptures, Faith is the assured expectation of things hoped for the evident demonstration of realities though not beheld. (Hebrews 11:1) Your family and friends are in my prayers.
