Hello,
We realize that we are very late to express our deepest condolences, but we wanted to let your family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and hometown of Mark J. Downer US Army Specialist.

We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families and friends and others who support our mission.

We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

Sincerely,

Mark, as I sit here at work burning the midnight oil, I reminisce on our days coming up. Whether it was at break at Northside High, or in the foyer before church at End Time Harvest, you were always willing to lend an ear to whatever I had to say. I can't believe how long it has been (even though it feels like yesterday when I received the news that you were gone). Your memories will be cherished forever. I will ensure that everyone knows the Legend of a man known as Mark J. Downer. I love you Brother always and forever. Thank you for always being there when I needed you the most. Rest in Heaven my friend. Til we meet again.

Garfield, Geradine and family, I am truly sorry for your loss. I was one of the fortunate ones that knew and loved your son. He was quite a fine young gentleman, always had a kind word, a smile and a hug for me each time I saw him at church. I remember when Pastor Womack prayed for him when he went in the service. Mark was a Godly man and you can be so proud of that. I thank him for the personal sacrifice he gave to his country and I thank you for raising him to be the wonderful man he became. I pray that God will give you the comfort and peace you seek at this time and that you will feel his arms around you. Take care of that precious little granddaughter. Our love to you and all your family. Cathy and Lew Chastain

I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic he died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.~Abraham Lincoln~

I felt that this quote from Abraham Lincoln is appropriate in this time of sadness. My condolences to the family of Spec. Mark Jordan Downer

Enjoy the lasting memories you have of him. Always cherish the moments he spent with you. His time on earth may have been brief to some; but he did amazing things in his season that many will never know.

To Brian's family, we mourn with you the loss of your son a remarkable man and American hero who paid the ultimate price for us all and his country.Blessed is the man who lay his life down for another.I salute you brother from another veteran of war to another.

To Brian's family, I think Brian would want you to have this poem from him, and it is a honor to deliver it to you on his behalf.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

August 12, 2011

My prayers are with your family. Rest Peacefully and thank you.
