We realize that we are very late to express our deepest condolences, but we wanted to let your family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and hometown of Mark J. Downer US Army Specialist.
We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families and friends and others who support our mission.

Mark, as I sit here at work burning the midnight oil, I reminisce on our days coming up. Whether it was at break at Northside High, or in the foyer before church at End Time Harvest, you were always willing to lend an ear to whatever I had to say. I can't believe how long it has been (even though it feels like yesterday when I received the news that you were gone). Your memories will be cherished forever. I will ensure that everyone knows the Legend of a man known as Mark J. Downer. I love you Brother always and forever. Thank you for always being there when I needed you the most. Rest in Heaven my friend. Til we meet again.

Garfield, Geradine and family, I am truly sorry for your loss. I was one of the fortunate ones that knew and loved your son. He was quite a fine young gentleman, always had a kind word, a smile and a hug for me each time I saw him at church. I remember when Pastor Womack prayed for him when he went in the service. Mark was a Godly man and you can be so proud of that. I thank him for the personal sacrifice he gave to his country and I thank you for raising him to be the wonderful man he became. I pray that God will give you the comfort and peace you seek at this time and that you will feel his arms around you. Take care of that precious little granddaughter. I did not know your son, but only heard of his great deeds just from reading the paper and listening to the news. I would like to encourage you all family to trust in the Lord, he will carry you through this and never leave your side. I lost a child at 18 years of age and I kept my trust in the Lord. mr & mrs downer, thank you for allowing us to be in the presence of mark all of these years. i went to school with mark. i guess its so hard to believe this could happen to mark because i know he could never hurt a fly. i want to thank you for raising someone so wonderful. he is so wonderful, he was willing to sacrifice his life for the world. i've never had a bad word to say abt him, he was truly a great guy. and i want to thank his daughter. thanks to her daddy i can look my son in the eyes everyday and tell him I love him. Thank you for waving at us as you passed by, i can't imagine the pain you feel, but i pray every night for strength for your family. i know he didn't like a lot of the attention being on him, but he deserves it. rip mark, you're already missed so much.

I am deeply saddened by the passing away of Brian. He embodied the strength of a brave soldier and gave the ultimate sacrifice for his country.
Enjoy the lasting memories you have of him. Always cherish the moments he spent with you. His time on earth may have been brief to some; but he did amazing things in his season that many will never know.
