Bolton Landing - Stephen B. McCormac III
Burt McCormac passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Bolton Landing on August 19, 2025 after declining health the past 2 years.
He was born on October 5, 1953 to Steve and Joyce McCormac of Lake George. He graduated from Lake George High School in 1971 then attended Plattsburg State University.
In his younger years, he was an Eagle Scout, played high school football, became a scuba diver, raced snowmobiles on the frozen ice of Lake George and throughout New York and Vermont, rode dirt bikes, and loved skiing at Gore Mountain. In 1976, he enjoyed serving as the Warren County Bicentennial Celebration Chairperson. Later, he loved collecting and working on his beautiful Porsches, listening to Jimmy Buffett, photography, had a passion for local history and enjoyed watching Formula 1 racing.
He spent his entire career in the hospitality industry in Boca Raton, Florida, California, and St Thomas but returned home to Lake George to the lake and mountains that he loved. He took immense pride in his work as a bartender at the Garrison then at the Sagamore Resort in Bolton as their Banquet Captain. He made many longtime friends through his work.
He was predeceased by his parents, Steve and Joyce McCormac and his grandparents, Burton and Grace McCormac and Frederick and Ortha Roider.
He is survived by his loving sister, Stefanie Smith; his beloved niece and nephew, Danielle Nason and Jason Smith, and his cherished great nieces, Kora Smith and Brooke Nason, all of Lake George, along with many cousins. He is also survived by his longtime special friend and love of his life, Susan Mungavin of Wappinger Falls and many lifelong friends including, Jay Earl, Jeff Garry, Gary Zibro, all of Lake George and Larry Fazio of North Carolina, all who have way too many stories to tell!
Burt was a quiet, independent man who lived his life his own way. He loved and looked out for his family and never ended a phone call or visit without saying "Luv ya". He will be greatly missed.
A graveside service at the family plot in Evergreen Cemetery, Lake George was simple and private for the family and close friends, just the way Burt would have liked, with Reverend Deacon Barb Mitchell of St James Episcopal Church officiating.
Donations in Burt's memory can be made to the Lake George Historical Museum, P.O. Box 472, Lake George, NY 12845.
Arrangements are under the care of the Regan Denny Stafford Funeral Home, 53 Quaker Road, Queensbury and those who wish may make online condolences at our website
