Allen Thorson

ST ANSGAR-Allen Thorson 88, of St Ansgar died Monday, March 27, 2023 at the Stacyville Nursing Home, Stacyville, Iowa.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at the Deer Creek Lutheran Church, Carpenter, Iowa, with Chaplin Theresa Turnball officiating. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place with Military Honors conducted by the Walter T Enneberg Post #358 of St Ansgar, Iowa.
Allen was born October 31, 1934 to Donald and Leona (Hollatz) Thorson in Mitchell County, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at Deer Creek Lutheran Church, Carpenter, Iowa.
Allen grew up in Mitchell County and attended school at Otranto and St Ansgar Schools.
Allen was inducted into the United States Army in 1954. He received his training in the 5th Armored Division at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas. He served in the Korean conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1956.
Allen and Joyce (Christensen) were united in marriage on July 24, 1957 at the Little Wayside Prayer Chapel, which is now re-located at the Austin, Minnesota fairgrounds. This marriage was blessed with 3 children, Donnie, Connie and Larry.
Allen enjoyed farming for 26 years, growing row crops and raising livestock. He also enjoyed trucking for various entities and drove school bus for the St Ansgar Schools. After his retirement from driving truck for Co-Op Oil, Allen spent the next eighteen years helping his son Donnie with his farming operation. He was at home sitting in the seat of a tractor or combine.
Allen taught himself how to play the concertina and loved to show off his skills. Allen and Joyce attended many polka fest and danced the night away.
Allen loved and enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They have lots of memories of Allen coming out to the farm to help with field work. He was lucky enough to get to watch them grow up and start their own families. He would talk about them often and how proud he was of them.
Allen is proceeded in death by his wife, Joyce Thorson; Parents, Donald and Leona Thorson. Siblings; Lucille Mackin, Harold Thorson and Eugene Thorson.
Allen is survived by his children; Donnie (Wendy) Thorson, Connie (Tim) Koch, and Larry Thorson. Grandchildren; Dustin (Lisa) Thorson, Marin Thorson, Skylar (Hanna) Thorson, Stephanie (John) Thieben. Great Grandchildren; Harrison and Archie Thorson, Charlie, Margo and Tucker Thorson, Noah and Maya Thieben. Sister; Elaine Hansen.
