Althea Brager Obituary
January 30, 1927 - April 21, 2025
Althea Viola Brager, 98, formerly of Forest City, Iowa, died Monday, April 21, 2025, peacefully in her sleep at the home of her daughter Joline Freisinger in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
Althea, the daughter of Alfred and Helen (Shauf) Hanna, was born on January 30, 1927, at the family farm in Woden, IA. She graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1944.
On June 7, 1947, she was united in marriage to Kenneth Brager at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. She and her husband Ken farmed in the Buffalo Center vicinity for approximately 20 years. Althea and Ken then moved to Forest City where they both were employed by Winnebago Industries. Following Ken's retirement from Winnebago the couple enjoyed spending their winters in Florida, Texas, and Arizona.
Althea loved to play pool and cards well into her 90's with friends and family. She loved watching Chicago Cubs baseball. Althea enjoyed many crafts including quilting, sewing, and painting. Her family loved and cherished her wonderful quilts. Althea loved visiting with her grandchildren and was thrilled to have two great-grandchildren. She enjoyed visiting with her many nieces and nephews and was able to attend a family reunion last year which she thoroughly enjoyed.
Althea is survived by her daughter Joline Freisinger of La Crosse, WI; son Douglas (Tesa) Brager of Topeka, Il; two granddaughters: Kristine Freisinger (Dean) Marzetta of Fairfax, VA; Brooke Brager of Lake Forest, IL; and grandson Benjamin (April) Brager of Bozeman, MT; two great-grandchildren: Aurora and Nolen Brager of Bozeman, MT.
Althea was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth and grandson, Jonathan Brager; her parents; sisters, Velma Munson of LaPorte IN, Arlene Steffen of Forest City, IA, Norma Jean Kohls of Waterloo, IA; brothers Donald Hanna of Woden IA, Alfred Hanna of Corbin, KY, Richard Hanna of Arizona; sisters in law, Eldora Hanna formerly of Woden, IA, Virginia Hanna of Arizona; brothers in law, Art Munson of LaPorte, IN, Vernon Steffen of Forest City, IA, Sheldon Kohls of Waterloo, IA.
A graveside service will be held May 8th at 2 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City. Pastor Zech Anderson of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Forest City, will officiate.
