Cato Lundt Jr. was born in Gladbrook, Iowa, on March 13, 1919, the son of Cato and Marguerite (Carlisle) Lundt Sr. He attended and graduated valedictorian from the Swaledale High School, class of 1936. He furthered his education having attended Iowa State Teachers College.

Cato was united in marriage to Harriet L. Smith at the First Congregational Church in Rockwell. Cato farmed most all of his life in rural southern Cerro Gordo County. He also made his living buying and selling livestock throughout his life. His farming legacy continues as he has now passed the torch to his nephew Fred Lundt. Cato's interests included fishing and annual trips to Hawaii for two or three months at a time, always making sure that he returned to the area in time for spring planting. Cato always enjoyed attending annual family reunions at Easter time that gathered in Omaha, Neb. He was a man who liked time spent with his family. Cato will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Grateful for having had the privilege of sharing in Cato's life are his loving and devoted wife of 67 years, Harriet Lundt of Rockwell; his six children, Rick (Jean) Lundt of Independence, Kan., Dr. Rita (Dr. Michael) Boehlje of West Lafayette, Ind., Leland "Jay" (Pam) Lundt of Alcester, S.D., Kent (Connie) Lundt of Orion, Ill., Holmes (Dr. Leslie) Lundt of Boise, Idaho, and Leanne (Guy) Sommers of Hills, Ia.; 18 grandchildren, Eric, Jason, Ryan, Jay Thomas, Jon, Kellie, Matt, Dan, Richard, David, Christina, Jennifer, Pierce, Blaine, Wendy, Jeff, Elizabeth and Benjamin and eight great-grandchildren.

Cato was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Steven Lundt.

Knowing Harriet and taking care of Cato was always a joy or maybe hard somethimes but he was so special. He had the most beautiful smile. Wish i had known him before he became ill but Harriet has taken the time to share her memories and photos many times. I'm glad he is now at peace and Harriet can hold him close in her heart and always remember the love and their life together.

I will always remember Cato and his big dog stopping at the elevator in Cartersville. Cato always teased me with his "attack" dog while I would pet the dog like a little kitten.
Sorry for your loss.
