Claire Low Obituary

NORTHWOOD - Claire (Rocky) Low, 49, of Northwood, Iowa, died Thursday (Aug. 10, 2006).

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 14, at the First Lutheran Church in Northwood with Father David Kucera officiating. Burial will take place in the Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood.

Visitation will be today from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, Highway 65 S., Northwood, and will continue one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.

Claire (Rocky) Low was born Jan. 24, 1957, in Mason City, Iowa, to Russell and Dorothy (Gentz) Low.

Rocky graduated from Northwood-Kensett High School in 1976. He met Connie Theobald on the softball field and they became team mates and were married on Sept. 28, 1991, and together had two beautiful daughters that he adored.

He was no doubt a family man. He spent much time with his wife and girls at home and coaching the girls' activities.

Rocky was loved not only by his family and close friends but by most everyone that knew him. He was an easy going, simple man that wanted only for himself the satisfaction that came from the work that he did to benefit someone.

He recently volunteered to take the position of president of the Northwood Park Board. He accomplished so many things in his first year, including spearheading the addition of a third softball diamond in the river park and helping with the creation of the borderline league for both the girls and boys teams. He had many more updates in mind for the river park.

Rocky was an outdoorsman. He enjoyed taking fishing trips to Canada and Minnesota every year with his friends. He liked to hunt with friends, nephews and his dog, Copper.

He enjoyed farming his father's land with his brothers and nephew. He was working to restore his father's old Farmall tractors.

In the summer he loved to play softball. He played for many years until he felt he needed to coach and watch his girls play. Wednesday nights became sacred in the summer as it was his night to golf and play cards with friends.

He loved working outdoors. He enjoyed working in the yard and his job on the secondary road crew for Worth County. It was tragic that his life ended on the job but on the other hand he also took his last breath doing what he loved.

He acquired many friends over the years through his many activities and work. He loved you all. You know who you are!!!

Rocky believed that activities for kids were important. His passion was to make sure the youth of Northwood had these opportunities. He was involved in creating activities for youth including fund-raising, coaching and organizing games at events.

Because of his passion for the youth advancement in athletics in Northwood, please send any memorials to NSB Bank in care of "Rocky's Passion." The account will disperse funds to the Northwood Park Board and youth sports for equipment, structures and other items as needed.

He was preceded in death by his father, Russell Low; and his brother, Delbert Low.

Rocky is survived by his wife, Connie, of Northwood; two daughters, Britney and Shelby, of Northwood; his mother, Dorothy Low, of Northwood; one sister, Arlene Meland, of Clinton, Iowa; and two brothers, Arlen and Lonnie, both of Northwood.

Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, Northwood, is assisting the family with the arrangements.

We also knew Rocky as the "Northwood Coach" when we would go to the girls' athletic events around the area with our middle school age daughter. Our girls team from Lake Mills always looked forward to playing Northwood because they knew Rocky would have a good team of girls ready to go out and win. I know what he taught these young Northwood girls will be carried with them the rest of their lives. Rest in peace Rocky and our sympathy to your family.

Connie & family,

You have my deepest sympathy, Connie. I know it seems like the world has come to an end, but it does get better as time does heal. Jay always thought so much of Rocky and enjoyed working with him and they had a lot of fun together. Rocky will be missed by many in our community--adults as well as children. He left a wonderfull legacy.
