Connor Tjarks Obituary
Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31, at Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery with the Rev. Steve Hansen officiating. Military Honors will be performed by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association. Memorials may be made to the Mason City High School Scholarship Fund.

Connor D. Tjarks was born Dec. 6, 1933 in Mason City, the son of Henry O. and Vesta F. (Davis) Tjarks. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1952. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1953 and served in the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1957. He then went on to the University of Iowa where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree. He later received a Master's degree in Library Science from Western Michigan University. He was Director of the Library at Drake University for nine years, and went on to work at Virginia Commonwealth University for seven years. Connor then spent the rest of his years at Florida Atlantic University as Associate Director of Libraries until his death.
Connor enjoyed traveling the United States and going to the University of Iowa football games.
He was a member of Phi Gamma Delta.
He is survived by his sister, Carolyn (Tjarks) Kniemeyer and her husband, Justin, of Port St. Lucie, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

To the family and friends of Connor, I was saddened to learn the news of Connor's passing. We have been colleagues for a number of years. His passion for trains, travel, and football was well known. His love for academia was equally evident. His humble nature and sense of humor will be missed the most.

Folks: I am quite sad at the passing of Connor. He was both a friend and a valued colleague. We both enjoyed sharing our interest in trains. He was one of the good guys. He will be sorely missed.
