GREENE | Funeral services for Lorena A. Landers, 94, of Greene, will be 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2014, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene with Pastor Gary Hatcher officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Greene.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Monday, Dec. 1, 2014, at Retz Funeral Home, 519 N. First St. Greene, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Tuesday one hour before services.
Lorena Heuer was born Nov. 21, 1920, in rural Dayton Township, Butler County, the daughter of Edward and Wilhelmina (Schrage) Heuer, and passed away Nov. 27, 2014, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. She received her education in country schools through the eighth grade. Lorena worked as a nanny for families in her community.
Lorena was united in marriage to Carl Landers on July 4, 1940, in Vilmar. This union was blessed with 5 children: Earl, Verl, LaVern, Lyle, and La Donna.
In addition to raising her own children, Lorena cared her grandchildren and some of her great-grandchildren. She always put family first. Lorena will be remembered for her excellent cooking and baking skills, most notably for her coffee cake and German potato salad. She also enjoyed caring for her garden.
Living family members include her children: Earl (Priscilla), LaVern (Marlene), Lyle (Marcia), LaDonna all of Greene; one daughter-in-law, Carol Landers, Greene; 10 grandchildren: Brandon (Trudy), Brendt (Karen), Barry (Daphne), Scott, Jason (Kayleen) Angela (Timothy) Christensen, Trace (Heather), Thad (Meghan), Mandy (William) Schmidt, Megan Schriver; 24 great-grandchildren: Tyler, Taylor, Trevor, Brylee, Owen, Cooper, Jude, Ashtyn, Josie, Mallory, Derek, Trent, Tonya, Courtney (Dustin) Bauman, Wyatt, Haley, Riley Christensen, Reed Christensen, Darby Christensen, Gavin, Tate, Leah, Kayden, Tegan.
Lorena was preceded in death by her husband Carl; son Verl; and grandsons: Danny, Travis, and Steve; parents; brothers: William and Alfred Heuer; sisters: Ella Landers, Leona Landers, Mylinda Moser, and Lucile Heuer.
