Margaret McMonagle Obituary

Margaret Alwilda McMonagle

February 12, 1919 - July 7, 2025

Margaret Alwilda McMonagle, 106, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 7, 2025, at the Rockwell Community Nursing Home, Rockwell, Iowa. A remembrance service will be held at 11 a.m., with a one-hour prior visitation, on Friday, July 11th, at the Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 2nd Street SE, Mason City, Iowa. Interment will be at the Rockwell Cemetery, Rockwell, Iowa.

Margaret Alwilda Treston McMonagle was born February 12, 1919, in her grandparents' living room at Rockwell, Iowa. Her parents were Martin M. Treston and Susan Lucinda (Lu) Gibson Treston. Margaret graduated from Rockwell High School, Rockwell, Iowa, on May 27, 1937. She attended Iowa State Teacher's college and taught for a few years in country schools in Cerro Gordo County. She married Cecil (Cec) Joseph McMonagle on June 14, 1941, at Rockwell, Iowa. Margaret and Cec both worked for Armour & Co. for over 25 years before retiring in 1975.

In their later years, the couple enjoyed spending time together and fishing at their cabin in Ash River on Lake Kabetogama in northern Minnesota. They spent winters during their retirement at Pensacola Beach, Florida where they enjoyed golfing, walking the beach and socializing with friends. Margaret enjoyed life and she enjoyed people. There was nothing she wouldn't try and no one in whom she wasn't interested. She had the talent to continue making friends throughout her long life.

Although Margaret and Cecil did not have any children of their own, they had very special relationships with their nieces and nephews. She is survived by her nieces, Sherry Treston (Carolyn Stanek) of Hinsdale Illinois, Shirley (Vance) Severson of Waterloo, Iowa, Sheila (Jay) Boyle of Shelton, Washington; and her nephew, Dr. Ronald (Kay) Hanson of Carmel, California. She is also survived by many great and great-great nieces and nephews. Special friends that she leaves behind include Jay and Ellen Sturges and their family, Barb and Dave Hasfjord, Sally Harris, Lois Evans, Marsha Wedmore and all those who spent many hours visiting with her in her later years.

Margaret was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Cecil; parents, Martin and Lu Treston; brother and sister-in-law, Martin D. (Denny) and Phyllis Treston; nieces, Mary Denice Treston, Odette Woodward, Karen Hansen; and nephew, Russell Hansen.

The family is deeply appreciative of the wonderful care provided to Margaret by the staff at the Rockwell Community Nursing Home. Memorials in her name may be made to the Rockwell Community Nursing Home, Rockwell, Iowa.
