Patricia Schultz
December 13, 1942 - September 27, 2025
Patricia "Pat" Ann Schultz, 82, of Nora Springs, Iowa, passed away September 27, 2025 at the Nora Springs Care Center.
A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 18, 2025 at Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 310 1st Ave N, Clear Lake, Iowa 50428. The family will receive guests from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday October 17th at the funeral home.
Pat was born December 13, 1942, in Mason City, Iowa, daughter of Wayne and Gertrude (Nagel) Larsen. She grew up on the family farm near the Mason City Municipal Airport. During those years, she enjoyed spending time with her Grandma Star who sparked her love for reading. Little Pat could often be found riding her pony, Daisy Mae or reading in the corn crib. She went on to graduate from Clear Lake High School with the class of 1961. Much of her time in school was spent participating in 4H, Speech Club and the Yearbook Committee.
Pat met Tom Schultz on a 4H trip to Chicago as a teenager. They fell in love and were united in marriage on June 22, 1963 at the Christian Church in Clear Lake, Iowa. They welcomed their one daughter, Lisa Ann Schultz (Templeton) on February 1, 1968. Pat went on to further her education, earning both her BA and MA in English Education from the University of Northern Iowa. She began teaching at Sioux City High School. After several years there she returned to North Iowa and took a job at Clear Lake High School where she taught English, Journalism, Speech, and Photography classes. These many years of teaching led to many fond memories of coaching speech, directing plays and chaperoning the annual Washington D.C. trips. After 29 years of teaching, she officially retired. Even still, she loved working together with her husband on their farm; especially combining.
Pat found great joy in traveling the world. Throughout her adult life she had taken several trips to Japan, China, Mongolia, Europe, Alaska, and Hawaii. Her most cherished destinations were Cozumel, Mexico, and Cass Lake, Minnesota, where she traveled annually bringing many family and friends along with her. She was always passionate about helping others to learn, even well beyond her years of teaching high school students. This passion for teaching included running a Spanish camp for her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, and teaching continuing education classes such as multi-cultural classes. In her life she also became a published author in 2020; writing "Amazing Women of Early Mason City." Her involvement in her community didn't stop with education. She volunteered for many years at Opportunity Village, her grandchildren's classrooms, and many other organizations. She led efforts to restore the Frank Lloyd Wright Hotel in Mason City, serving as the executive director of Wright On The Park.
Family meant everything to Pat. She loved hosting family gatherings and sharing her "gifts of love"; even if her family insisted on gifts not being shared. She also generously shared her talented artwork, such as drawings, paintings, quill work, and paper floristry. Pat was a lover of cats, poetry, art, justice, being barefoot and warm, sunny weather. She never feared living a life of boldness. Her presence brought with it a unique perspective. She always encouraged others toward a life of happiness and goodness over convention and clean houses. She prided herself on being her nieces and nephews "craziest aunt." In every season of her life, Pat sought to do what she could to make the world a better place. The world held such beauty each day Pat was in it. She made things beautiful.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Lisa (Steve) Templeton; grandchildren, Alex (Nicole) Templeton and Alli (Thomas) Dalton; great-grandchildren, Walker, Cole, and Ivy; brothers, Ralph Larsen, and Marvin (Janet) Larsen; sister-in-law, Jacque (Darrell) Chayne; as well as many nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.
Preceding her in death are her husband, Tom; parents, Wayne and Gertrude; and sister-in-law, Pat Larsen.
