Paul W. Christoffersen
November 24, 1937 - January 27, 2019
Paul W. Christoffersen was born November 24, 1937 in Ogema, a small town in north-central Wisconsin. His parents, Eivind and Dorothy Olander Christoffersen and four siblings moved to Osage in 1951. Paul graduated from Osage High School in 1955 and Illinois Institute of Technology in 1959 with a BS as a Fire Protection and Safety Engineer. Captain Paul Christoffersen served in the US Air Force in Panama City, FL, at a radar station in Goose Bay, Labrador, and Charleston, WV., before his Honorable Discharge as Captain Christoffersen.
In 1963 he married Carol Balhorn, a teacher in Cedar Rapids. They lived in Des Moines, IA before moving to Mount Prospect, IL a NW suburb of Chicago. He worked 26 years for Protection Mutual Fire Protection Insurance Co. now called FM Global. He finalized his career when charged with opening new offices in Sydney and Melbourne, Australia to attract the Asia Pacific fire protection market. Paul and Carol traveled all around Australia, Tasmania and New Zealand for two years before Paul retired at age sixty.
Paul and Carol had two daughters, Lynn Kong (Tom Kong) and Lisa Christoffersen (Roger Snow) and two grandchildren Jarrett and Hayley Kong.
Paul and Carol retired to Sun City, Palm Springs, CA and enjoyed new friends, golf and traveling before strokes limited his abilities. Paul died at home on Jan. 27, 2019.
Paul's celebration of life will be held Saturday June 29, 2019 at 11 o'clock at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage, IA. with burial in Osage Cemetery.
