Anacortes - Margaret Ann Bailey Oehlman (Maggie) 95, of Anacortes, died Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at Lighthouse Memory Care where she had lived for three years.
She was born August 23, 1930 in Oakland, California to Terry Elmer Bailey and Mary Gertrude (Weir) Bailey. In 1948 she graduated from Oakland Technical High School. Margaret furthered her education at Armstrong Business College by taking the private secretarial course that lasted fifteen months earning her diploma.
Margaret met her husband, Alvin Otto Oehlman, in 1948 at the Berkeley Ice Arena in Berkeley, California. On June 19, 1949 they were married at her parents' home. They raised two children, Richard Dennis Oehlman and Kathryn Lynn Oehlman. The family moved to Anacortes, Washington in 1956 when Alvin was transferred with Shell Oil Refinery. She attended the First Baptist Church of Anacortes where she volunteered as the secretary for 12 years and was later hired for 12 more years and retired in 1986. Margaret was very active in various church activities. Her interests included ice skating, gardening, reading, sewing, and her many pets. She was also an avid collector of sea shells and was a charter member of the Northern California Malacozoological Club.
She is preceded in death by her husband Alvin Oehlman who passed away on October 20, 2001 and Nancy (Cambra) Oehlman (daughter-in-law) who passed away on September 26, 1993, mother of Andrew and Jennifer Oehlman. She is survived by her son Richard and his wife Roree Oehlman of Honokaa, Hawaii, her daughter Kathryn and her husband Richard Latham of Lakewood, California. Grandchildren Elizabeth and her husband Jeremy Bucko and Ammie and her husband Aaron McVay all of Long Beach, California, Andrew Oehlman of Santa Rosa, California, Jennifer and her husband Andrew Harry of Rocklin, California. Great grandchildren Bailey Bucko, Abbey and Ava McVay all of Long Beach, California and Noah, Luke and Zoe Harry of Rocklin, California.
Memorials are suggested to go to the First Baptist Church, 2717 J Ave, Anacortes, Washington, 98221, or to a charity of your choosing.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
