Robert Sidney "Bob" Carlson passed quietly Friday, October 7, 2016 at the age of 93.

Bob spent a long, happy life enjoying his family, friends and the beautiful Pacific Northwest.

Born in Salem, Oregon, Bob moved to the Seattle area with his family in 1930, and lived in Washington the remainder of his life. He attended Queen Anne High School where he was on the baseball team and developed a life-long love of the game.

Bob served his country overseas in WWII, in the US Army Signal Corps, from 1943-1946. Upon his return, he married Jayne Stevens of Clarkston, Washington in 1947 and the couple would have celebrated their 70-year anniversary this coming April.

Bob and Jayne were Bellevue pioneers, and built their own home on Clyde Hill in 1950, where they raised their family and were active in the community, with a special interest in the Bellevue Boys and Girls Club.

Bob had a long career with Pacific NW Bell Telephone Company and retired after 33 years of service to pursue other career interests, which included time spent in restaurant management and custom home building in the Spokane area.

The Carlson family have many wonderful memories of time spent at their Hayden Lake place, one of Bob's creative building projects.

Bob and Jayne moved to Anacortes in 1986 and enjoyed a wonderful post-retirement life with many friends.
Bob spent his years in Anacortes volunteering as a lifeline installer and helping with projects at the Anacortes Yacht Club. He was a proud member of the infamous IDGABTT society.

Bob and Jayne moved to Bothell last winter to be closer to immediate family, but missed their "Anacortes Family" very much.

Bob is survived by his wife, Jayne, his sister Lois (Carlson) Moe and his sister-in-law Margaret (Stevens) Van Leuven. Bob's surviving children are Jan Carlson, Chuck Carlson, Jo (Carlson) Defenbach, his daughter-in-law Kerry (Campbell) Carlson, and son-in-law Jeff Defenbach. Bob was especially proud of his grandchildren Robert (& Jessica) Carlson, Kyle Defenbach and Kate (Defenbach) (& Jeff) DeVries, and was fortunate to see 3 great-granddaughters join the family: Sidney Jayne (Bob & Jayne's namesake) Carlson, Henley DeVries and Adrie DeVries.

Preceding him in death was a son, Scott Robert, who died in 1969.

A "Celebration of Life" honoring Bob is planned for Saturday, November 26 from 2-4 PM at the Anacortes Yacht Club, 611 Rotary Park Lane, Anacortes, WA.
