Andrew Lewis (Dick) Lassiter, Sr.

GRETNA- Andrew Lewis (Dick) Lassiter, Sr., age 89 of Gretna, died Sunday, April 11, 2010 at the Veterans Medical Center in Salem.

Born March 22, 1921 in Louisa County, he was a son of the late Robert Lynn Lassiter and Cora Strong Lassiter. He was predeceased by his wife, Hattie Keesee Lassiter; his son Andy Lassiter; one sister, Mary Carrier; two brothers, Robert Lassiter, and Billy Lassiter. He was a member and Deacon of Gretna Christian Church, a Navy veteran of World War II, and was a retired truck driver with Hunt Trucking Company. Mr. Lassiter enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing.

He is survived by two daughters, June Newsome and husband, Jerry of Burlington, NC, and Betty Jo Mason and husband, Lee of Gretna; one brother, Jimmy Lassiter of Powhatan; two sisters, Virginia Hartley of Mineral, and Myrtle Riggsbee of Mineral; four grandchildren, Joey Newsome, Christopher Mason, Andrea Johnson, and Sherry Bowen; and 6 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at Gretna Christian Church by Rev. Dwight Mays. Burial will follow in Carl O. Moran Memorial Garden.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence of his daughter and son-in-law, Betty Jo and Lee Mason, 3233 Pittsville Road, Gretna.
