Benjamin Wayne Barber (Ben), 34, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, tragically passed away on May 8, 2025. Born on October 21, 1990 in Danville, Virginia, Ben was a kind- hearted and hardworking man, known for his unwavering dedication to his family, his community, and his faith.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Cameron Barber, and their six-year-old son, Owen Barber, his father and mother, Timothy M. and Janet H. Barber, brother, Will Barber, sister, Elizabeth Barber, and grandmother, Catherine B. Handy. He was predeceased by grandparents, Jesse "Willard" and Martha C. Barber, and Martha C. Barber, and Wayne D. Handy. He also leaves behind nephews, Jesse and Dalton, aunts Myrna B. Herndon (Buddy) and Judy H. Crews (Lin), an uncle, Danny M. Barber, and many dear cousins.
Ben was deeply committed to helping othersalways the first to lend a hand and the last to seek r Chapel Hill where he found joy and purpose in service and fellowship. He was an avid supporter of Racing for ALS, a non-profit organization to raise critical funds for ALS research. A devoted husband and father, Ben will be remembered for his quiet strength, compassion, and the love he shared so freely with everyone around him.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Swansonville Pentecostal Holiness Church,16300 Mount Cross Rd, Dry Fork, VA 24549. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by the service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be private.
A casual, child-friendly Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, June 1, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Mount Carmel Baptist Church,2016 Mt Carmel Church Rd, Chapel Hill, NC 27517.
Ben's warmth, humor, and generous spirit touched the lives of all who knew him. As we celebrate his life and legacy, the family kindly asks that in lieu of flowers, friends and loved ones share written cards or letters with memories of Benstories that reflect the joy, kindness, and impact he brought to the world. These remembrances will be gathered in a memory box at each service for his young son, so that one day he can come to know his father through the eyes and hearts of those who loved him.
