Dr. David Clark Caldwell, age 70, of Freeport, Maine passed away peacefully on October 26, 2024.
Dr. Caldwell was born September 30, 1954, in Washington, DC, the son of the late Matthew Clark and Edith Larson Caldwell. He spent his childhood in Arlington, Virginia. He was a graduate of High Point University and Wake Forest University School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of Alabama Birmingham, followed by a hematology and oncology fellowship at the University of Iowa.
Dr. Caldwell moved to Danville, Virginia in 1986 and established Danville Hematology and Oncology, Inc. through which he spent the next 24 years providing cancer care to Southside Virginia. In 2010 he relocated to Maine and worked at Central Maine Medical Center until his retirement in 2016.
Dr. Caldwell's most cherished role was that of a husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Barbara, their children, Benjamin Caldwell (Rachel) of Providence, Rhode Island, Adam Caldwell (Marie) of Freeport, Maine, Joanna Henderson (Joseph) of Hanover, New Hampshire, and Jennifer Caldwell (Robert Thompson) of Freeport, Maine as well as nine grandchildren (Rory, Reese, Charles, Remy, Henry, Cecilia, Eleanor, Phineas and Callan).
Dr. Caldwell will be remembered for his unwavering integrity and empathy, and as a source of strength for his patients, colleagues, and family. He will be deeply missed.

Linda Kelly..Danville, VA. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008. Dr. Caldwell was my oncologist. I truly believe that he played an important role in my being alive today. I was just saying on yesterday that I received fabulous care from my doctors during my cancer battle. Dr. Caldwell was so kind, compassionate and knowledgeable. Thank you God for placing my care in Dr Caldwells hands. God bless his family and may he rest in peace.

Barbara and children, so sorry to learn of Dr Cardwell´s death. Many memories of you and family at Mt.Vernon. Also, when my housekeeper `s husband was dying from lung cancer, he told her not to bring him to the office because it was too taxing on him. Since they lived close to the hospital, he would make house calls. He went by weekly. Such a compassionate doctor. May your memories sustain you during this time. Mary Lou, Hudson, Richard and Linzy.

Dr. Caldwell was my doctor. He was so kind, caring, and helpful. On chemo days, he was a ray of sunshine with that smile and cute little chuckle. He always took time to listen and help in any way possible. I will always be thankful for him. May God bless and comfort his family.

Dr. Caldwell was my oncologist, when I can down with ovarian cancer in 1986. I believe I was his first ovarian case in Danville. It was only through God´s divine will and Dr. Caldwell´s amazing care that I am now approaching my 82nd birthday. Dr. Caldwell has always held a special place in my heart. I was a patient of Dr. Caldwell in Danville, Va. and I also worked with him in the hospital in Danville. If anybody was born to be a doctor and take care cancer patients it was him. Dr Caldwell had more compassion and empathy than any other physician I worked with during my long nursing career. I also have to thank him for caring for me during and after my cancer journey which was 26 years ago. I know how much his family meant to him and he will be greatly missed. The medical field has lost an intelligent and brilliant physician.
