David. C. Osborne, Sr.

GRETNA-David Coleman Osborne, Sr., age 87 of Gretna died Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at Gretna Health & Rehab.

Born August 5, 1922 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Alfred Gilmer Osborne and Mollie Kate Dalton Osborne. He was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Agnes Towler Osborne; six brothers, Charlie, Joel, Haywood, Bobby, Bernard and James (Pops) Osborne; a sister, Mary Paschal; and a grandson, Zach Adkins. Mr. Osborne was an Army veteran of World War II having served in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of the West End Church of Christ, a farmer and a retired employee of Hunt Oil & Tire Co. He enjoyed baseball and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

He is survived by three sons, David Osborne, Jr. and wife, Barbara of Chatham, Marshall Osborne and wife, Laura of Gretna , and Freddie C. Osborne of Gretna; two daughters, Mildred Perkins and husband, Melvin of Gretna, and Darlene Adkins and husband, Lee of Chatham; two brothers, Curtis Osborne of Chatham and Roncie Osborne of Danville; two sisters, Isabelle Tuck of Pittsville, and Clair Crider of Richmond; 8 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 9, 2010 at the Wagner Family Cemetery by Randy Parker, Minister.

The family will receive friends at the residence of his son, Marshall Osborne, 402 South Franklin Blvd., Gretna.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Gretna Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 14, Gretna, VA 24557.
