Donald Alverson Obituary

DANVILLE - Donald Dean Alverson, 69, of 125 Windsor Trail, died Wednesday, June 27, 2007, at his residence. He had been in declining health for two years.
Born Feb. 12, 1938, in Danville, he was the son of the late Herman L. Alverson and the late Violet Christianson Alverson.
Don had lived all of his life in Danville, where he was a graduate of George Washington High School, class of 1956, and the College of Hard Knocks.
He was employed in sales all of his adult life, and retired from Danville Chrysler Plymouth on Jan. 1, 2000.
Don loved his family and friends, and loved to spend time at Emerald Isle, N.C. He was an avid Virginia Tech fan. He was a member of Sandy Shores Baptist Church, where he was active as long as his health permitted.
He was a member of the Improved Order of Red Men, Poquoson Tribe 124.
He was married to Donna Pizzulo Alverson.
In addition to his wife, of the residence, he is survived by three daughters, Deana A. Mills and her husband, Richard (Ricky), of Dry Fork, Cindy A. Yates, of Blairs, and Tae A. Thornton and her husband, Teddy, of Danville; two stepdaughters, Dana Kennedy of Danville and Leanne LeVesque of Houston; a stepson, Lonnie Kennedy Jr. and his wife, Cindy, of Naples, Fla.; a sister, Susan Parrish, of Danville; four grandsons, Cody Mills, Austin Mills, Spencer Thornton and Bailey Thornton; two granddaughters, Jessica Yates and Kattie Thornton; two step-granddaughters, Chelsea LeVesque and Morgan Kennedy; one great-granddaughter, Madelaine Rust; and three nephews. He is also survived by his beloved pets, Annie and Missy.
He was predeceased by a brother, H. Ray Alverson.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 30, at Sandy Shores Baptist Church with the Rev. Billy Scearce officiating.
The family will be at the residence, 125 Windsor Trail.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Hospice Support Services Inc., P.O. Box 2713, Danville, VA 24541; to God's Pit Crew, 296 Still Springs Drive, Danville, VA 24541; or to a charity of choice.
Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
