Earlene Dodson Obituary

Earlene Davis Dodson

October 19, 1934 - May 6, 2024

Earlene Davis Dodson, 89, formerly of 175 Capri Court, Danville, VA, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, May 6, 2024, at Cardinal Senior Living.

Mrs. Dodson was born in Halifax County, VA, on October 19, 1934, a daughter of the late Norman Davis and Beatrice Shaw Davis. She spent most of her life in the Danville area where she worked as a lab technician at Danville Memorial Hospital until her retirement after 34 years of service. After her retirement she helped her daughter at Big Daddy's Dinner making pies and helping customers.

Mrs. Dodson was an avid participant in many activities, including playing softball for the hospital in the City Softball League. She found joy in camping, cultivating flowers, and cooking. Additionally, she was an active member of the Good Sam's Camping Club and the Danville Memorial Hospital Retirees Club. She was a member of the former Forest Lawn Baptist Church where she sang in the choir.

On December 25, 1953, she married Howard Nelson Dodson, who died on April 9, 2021.

Even after her decline in health with her dementia, she was able to recall her family and her cross country trip that she and her husband, Howard, took together.

Survivors include her son, Jeff Dodson (Debra) of Danville, VA; daughter, Janet Dodson Hash (Allen) of Sutherlin, VA; grandchildren, Carrie Pierson (Luke) and Zack Gregory; brother, Frank Davis (Joan) of Blairs, VA; and sister, Shirley Linens of Danville, VA.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Dodson was predeceased by her brothers, Kent and Henry Davis.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at 2 p.m. at the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Reverend Tim Rogers officiating. Interment will follow the service in Danville Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends prior to the service on Saturday, from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m., at the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel.

Memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association at 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601, to Gods Storehouse, 750 Memorial Drive, Danville, VA 24541 or you can donate blood in memory of Mrs. Dodson.

I worked with Earline for years at the hospital. We also played softball for the hospital many a summer and loved every minute of it. She was one sweet lady, I am so sorry for your loss.

Dear Jeff and Debra,
My heart goes out to you in the death of your mother. I remember seeing her often in my years at the hospital. I guess with Debra being up there at the same time, you knew where to find them, Jeff. She was a faithful worker and church member. The whole world needs parents like that.
There's no one in the world that can compare with her love. God just made them that way. Tomorrow is Mother's Day, and it will be your first without her here, but she hasn't missed a beat and she's still loving you in the presence of God.
Cherish the memories. You can laugh about those camping trips and the catastrophes that go with them. "They make good cushions for old age!"
Tell Carrie I often think about her baptism at Selah. I feel sure Earlene must have been there at the creek on our first baptism. Darryl Bodie asked her how she knew she was saved, and she said, "I just know." He confirmed that she was right on target, since First John says when the Holy Spirit has saved us, we have assurance of salvation. I tell classes often about her answer and the assurance that each of us can have.
I miss y'all. Is there anything I can do for you, now or later?

Love,
Carolyn Winstead Bagley.....and Will too
