Jesse Overbey Obituary

CHATHAM, Va. Jesse "Buck" William Overbey departed this life for his eternal home on Tuesday, July 16, 2019. Son of Dr. Ernest Overbey, Susan Eugenia Hogg Overbey and beloved stepmother Helen Finch Overbey, he resided in his beloved Chatham, Virginia among generations of his ancestors. He is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Janice Harris Overbey; daughter, Judith Cabell Overbey; son, Jesse Dugger Overbey (Tanya); two grandsons, William and Randall; his sister, Sue Overbey Funderburk (Jim); and many cousins, nieces and nephews. A graduate of St. Christopher's School, Hampden Sydney College and T.C. Williams Law School, he practiced law in Chatham for forty-two years. His love and respect for the legal profession was evident to his colleagues and the clients he served. A lifelong member of Chatham Baptist Church, he served as a Trustee, choir and Men's Sunday School class and Deacon. In the Boy Scouts of America, he was an Eagle Scout and a member of the Order of the Arrow. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed camping, sailing and motorcycling with family and friends. A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2019, at Chatham Baptist Church, 12 court St. Chatham, Virginia. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. and service at 11 a.m.
