Michael Muhlberger Obituary

Michael Allen Muhlberger

August 9, 2022

On the morning of Tuesday, August 9, 2022, at the age of 65 and after a valiant eight year battle with cancer, Michael Allen Muhlberger took his last breath in his wife's arms before going home to be with our Lord.

Mike was born in Morristown, N.J. in 1957 and spent his youth in Chatham, N.J. where he met his wife, Julie Shook Muhlberger, at Chatham High School. He began his career in 1975 as an Apprentice at General Electric in Schenectady, N.Y. and completed the apprenticeship as a Journeyman Tool & Die Maker. In 1980, he married the love of his life Julie and moved to N.J. where he worked for White Co. developing the first barcode scanners still being used in stores today. Mike started working in the Research and Development department at AT&T in 1981, where he was awarded a patent for classified materials. He saw the birth of his first son Michael in 1985. Mike earned a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Trenton State University in 1988, the same year his daughter Sarah was born. 1989 saw Mike and his family move with AT&T to Elon, N.C. where his second son Jason was born in 1991. Mike continued his education and earned a Masters degree in Engineering and Global Operations Management from Clarkson University in 1995. Also in 1995, Mike took a new job at Fore Systems/Marconi in Pittsburgh, Pa. This led to Mike's first overseas assignment, and moved his family to England. Mike returned to Pittsburgh in 2004 when he became a Vice President for PNC Bank. He then took a job at Medrad/Bayer as Director of Global Supply Chain Operations in 2006, which sent the family on their second overseas assignment to the Netherlands. Upon returning to the US in 2010, Mike made his last move in 2015 back to N.C. when he began working for Teleflex Medical as their Chief Procurement Officer. He officially retired in 2019 and spent his remaining days with his wife on their little cattle ranch.

Through the entirety of Mike's adult life, he worked tirelessly and selflessly in the service of his family. He was truly a devoted and loving husband and father. His quick wit, sarcasm, charm and tenderness impacted countless people in his journeys around the world. He is survived by his wife, Julie (Blanch, N.C.); son, Michael and wife, Lindsay (Pittsburgh, Pa.), daughter, Sarah and partner, Daniel (Dallas, Texas), and son. Jason and wife, Ashlee (Dallas, Texas). Mike's blessings continued with the addition of five grandchildren to the family - Brayden, Hunter, McKenzie, Wyatt and Weston (Dallas, Texas). He never went unnoticed in a room and he will be deeply missed.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks instead for donations to the American Cancer Society. A celebration of Mike's life will be held at the family farm on Saturday, August 20, 2022 from 4 until 6 p.m.
