Oakley Davis Obituary


LEASBURG, N.C. - Oakley Leo Davis, 72, of 9020 Leasburg Rd., Leasburg, died Friday, June 11, 2004, at his residence following a brief illness.

A native of Pittsylvania Co., he was the son of the late Oscar Linwood and Effie Crider Davis.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, a retired farmer and a member of Leasburg United Methodist Church.

He was married to Barbara Duncan Davis.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Mark Davis and Hank Davis, both of Leasburg, and Gary Davis of Hurdle Mills, NC; three brothers, Stokley Davis of Leasburg, Herman Davis of Roxboro and Hilton Davis of Danville, Va.; three sisters, Lois D. Martin of Sanford, N.C., Gypsy D. Vernon of Mebane, N.C., Hilda D. Duncan of Chesapeake and a grandson.

He was predeceased by one daughter, Barbara Diane Davis, five brothers, Robert Davis, Milton Davis, Reece E. Davis, Odell Davis and Stover Davis; two sisters, Irene D. Mayhew and Louise D. Neathery.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 14, at Leasburg United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jeanne Neal officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 1097 with interment following in the Leasburg Community Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Sunday, June 13, at Strickland Funeral Home and at other times will be at the home, 9020 Leasburg Road.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Leasburg United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 98, Leasburg, N.C. 27291.

Strickland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
