Peggy Davis Obituary

Peggy Anne Hudgins Davis

May 11, 1931 - January 12, 2025

Peggy Anne Hudgins Davis passed away peacefully on January 12, 2025, in Venice Florida. Her kindness, strength, and warmth touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Peggy was notable for her sense of style and being a proper lady, yet her ready smile, unique sense of humor, and infectious laughter brought joy and fun to all who knew her. She enjoyed singing, dancing, games, conversations with friends, travel, and helping others in need.

Born in Danville, Virginia, Peggy graduated from Schoolfield High School. She was a wonderful homemaker for her family, while volunteering for various organizations in Danville. Peggy also worked in office management and early childhood education. She was a charter member of West Main Baptist Church and was active in many church activities, including the Choir, Sunday School, and Worship. She served on various church committees and in leadership and service roles. In the community, Peggy was a long-time volunteer for Christian Education Services for Persons with Disabilities, volunteered for Danville Memorial Hospital, and was a member of various civic and social organizations. She was a competitive spirit and enjoyed participating in walking events, often winning first and second place.

Peggy was married to the love of her life, Charles "Gus" Davis, on March 2, 1951, and they shared over 57 wonderful years together. She spent the past 8 years in Venice, Florida. She enjoyed her years at Aston Gardens, making new friends, participating in many activities, particularly exercise classes, Bible classes, and engaging in social activities. Peggy particularly enjoyed music and walking outside.

Peggy's life was a testament to the power of living her faith in Christ. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her. As we mourn her passing, we celebrate her reunion with Gus and all the saints before her. We take comfort in knowing that her legacy of kindness and faith will live on through the lives she touched.

Peggy is survived by her children: Pamela Davis Potocik and Mark Potocik, of Knoxville, Tennessee; Karen Davis Riley of Jordan, Minnesota; and Dr. Charles H. Davis and Janel Davis of Nokomis, Florida. Peggy's many grandchildren include: Jonathan and Rayann Potocik, of College Grove, Tennessee; Christopher and Jessica Potocik, of Knoxville, Tennessee; Michael and Allie Riley, of Jordan Minnesota; Taylor Riley, of Kathleen, Georgia; Chelsea Davis, of Venice Florida; Cassandra Davis Brower and Zachary Brower, of Nokomis, Florida; and Carissa Davis, of Venice, Florida. Peggy is also survived by her great grandchildren: Kaelyn Riley and Hayden Shiver of Kathleen, Georgia; Liam Riley and Aria Riley of Jordan, Minnesota; and Brooks Brower of Nokomis, Florida.

Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Charles "Gus" Davis; her parents, Frank E. and Daisy Shelton Hudgins; her sister and brother-in-law, Naomi H. and Talmadge W. Mitchell; her brother and sister-in-law, Frank E., Jr. and Jean Hudgins.
