Ricky Darrell Moorefield, 48, of Hurt, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, June 25, 2015. He was the beloved husband of Ellen Oakes Moorefield.He was born December 13, 1966, in Halifax County, a son of Jordan Carroll Moorefield and Joan Pugh Moorefield of Hurt. He was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church, a Project Manager with Haymes Brothers Inc. and former Chief of Police with the Hurt Police Department. He was a former member of the Hurt Volunteer Fire Department; former instructor with the Department of Fire Programs, former member of the Air National Guard Unit #203 Civil Engineering Squad called the "Red Horse" and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving in Desert Storm. Ricky was an avid Boston Red Sox and UVA fan, enjoyed cooking, spending time with his girls and family, but most of all; he was a loving, compassionate and devoted husband, father, son, brother and friend.In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by his two loving daughters, Mason Leigh Moorefield and Ellery Thomas Moorefield of Hurt; his faithful dog, Jingles; a brother, Michael C. Moorefield and his wife Pamala of Hurt; mother-in-law, Clydene Giles Oakes of Blairs; brother in law, Matt Oakes and his wife Jennifer of Blairs; nephews and nieces, Daniel and Paige Moorefield and Cole, Bailey and Leah Oakes; and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.He was preceded in death by a son, Kendall Ray Moorefield; and his father-in-law, James T. Oakes.A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 28, 2015, at New Prospect Baptist Church by the Rev. Brady Willis and Rev. Jon Woodburn with interment to follow in the Oakland United Methodist Church Cemetery in Dry Fork. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Altavista Memorial Post #36.The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Saturday at New Prospect Baptist Church Family Life Center and other times at the residence of his parents, Jordan and Joan Moorefield, 704 Spring Street, Hurt.The family suggests that those wishing to make memorials consider New Prospect Baptist Church, P.O.
