Ellen "Christine" Garber Moorefield

Ellen "Christine" Garber Moorefield, 91 years old, went to see the Lord on January 23, 2026. Born in Halifax County, Virginia on September 17, 1934 and spent most of her life in Tabb, Virginia. She retired from Maida Development Company after 40 years of loyal service. With no help, she somehow managed to raise four hellyen children on her own and did a wonderful job. She was an avid NASCAR fan with Petty and Earnhart her favorites. She loved the beach, sunning, fishing and spent her early years with her children at Reds Pier, basking in the sun. She loved her home in Tabb where she did all her yardwork because no one could do it like her and she was so proud of her lawn and flowers. She loved to travel the U.S. and visit family and friends from the east coast to the west coast and anywhere between she would go. She had a beautiful smile and unforgettable laugh that so many spoke about along with her quick wit and knack for making up words that you should know. She would do anything for anyone and help out whenever she could. The later years of her life she dedicated to taking care of her brother in law and continued to reside in Halifax. She is preceded in death by her parents, Irving and Inez Garber; 2 brothers, Thomas "Coopie" Garber and Emmitt "Buck" Garber; great grandchildren, Christopher Whitmire, Austin Craver; nephew, Dwayne Saunders and brother in law, Harold Jones. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Bass (Sandy) son, Wayne Moorefield (Mary Lou), daughter, Mary "Dinky" Foley and partner Charlie Bolton, son, Rodney Moorefield and partner Josuph Felix, sister, Linda Jones, grandchildren, Dustin Rowe (Erin), Johanna Burger (Dave), Jermy Foley (Megan), Jamie Foley (Erin), Roseann Whitmire (Jeff) and Shelby Moorefield; 16 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. The family would also like to thank Sentara Hospital and Sentara Hospice of South Boston, Virginia for their care and comfort at her home as well. The family will receive friends at Amory Funeral Home in Grafton, Virginia on Thursday, January 29, 2026 from 6-7 PM where funeral services will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026 at 2:00 PM. The burial will follow at Peninsula Memorial Park in Newport News, Virginia.
