Verna "Polly" Adkins, age 97, of Blairs, Va., passed away on Friday, January 28, 2022, at her residence.
Mrs. Adkins was born on March 25, 1924, in Sago, Va., a daughter of the late Joe Henry Adkins Lelia Oakes Adkins. She lived most of her life in the Danville area where she was employed with Dan River Mills until her retirement. On December 15, 1942, she married Reid Adkins who preceded her in death. Mrs. Adkins was of the Christian faith.
Mrs. Adkins is survived by her son, Ray Adkins (Sharon); grandchildren, Jennifer Petrovitch and Joey Adkins; step-grandchildren, Michele Moore, Mike Henderson and Andrew Meeks; great-grandson, Dylan Adkins; step-great-grandchildren, Taylor Moore, Kyndall Moore, Aria Meeks and Gabe Meeks; and her special caretaker, Patricia Zigler.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by 12 siblings.
Graveside services will be conducted on Monday, January 31, 2022, at 2 p.m. in the Adkins Family Cemetery with the Reverend Roy Harris officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday evening from 6 until 7:30 p.m. at Barker Funeral Home.
