Violet Bartley Obituary


DANVILLE, Va. - Violet Blair Bartley, 84, of 529 Wimbish Drive, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003, at Danville Regional Medical Center. She had been in declining health for six months and in the hospital for one week.

Born Jan. 7, 1919, in Pike County, Hellier, Ky., she was a daughter of Jasper N. Blair and Margaret Blevins Blair.

She lived most of her life in Hellier prior to moving to Danville in 1985. She was a member of Hellier Baptist Church in Kentucky and attended Full Gospel Fellowship Church in Danville.

She was married to Elizah Bartley, who predeceased her in 1988.

She is survived by two daughters, Lenora Simmons of Danville and Sharon Douglas of Blairs; two sons, Bobby Wooten of Hellier and Douglas Wooten of Halifax; two sisters, Fayetta Little of Hellier and Betty Sue Breedlove of Richmond, Texas; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by one grandchild.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Swicegood Chapel with the Rev. Daryl Joyce officiating. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.

The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Saturday at Swicegood Funeral Home and at other times will be at the residence.

Swicegood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
