William Hardy Obituary

William O. "Bill" Hardy Mr. William O. "Bill" Hardy, age 83, of 1833 Blair Loop Rd., Danville, VA, went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, April 14, 2013 at Danville Regional Medical Center. He was born on June 22, 1929, in Asheville, NC, to the late Robert Fletcher Hardy, Jr and Edna Rainy Hardy. Mr. Hardy was the President and CEO of W. Henry Hardy, Inc. DBA Hardy Petroleum. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Hardy's joys were his devoted wife, Alma, his children and grandchildren, spending time at his home on Smith Mountain Lake, his work, and Nascar. He was an avid Hookie fan and a superb stew master and fish fryer. Mr. Hardy was an active member of Fairview United Methodist Church and a member of the Friendship class, where he served as president. He was an usher, choir member, planning committee member, and served as the District Treasury for the United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Westover Sertoma Club, serving as secretary, member of the Lions Club, and Who's Who of America upon graduation from Virginia Tech. He is survived by his loving wife Alma Wagner Hardy, of the residence; daughters: Dianne Hardy Weatherford and husband David, of Danville, VA and Kathy Hardy Metzer and husband Tim, of Greensboro, NC; son: Billy Hardy and wife Joy, of Danville, VA; one brother, Rev. Robert Fletcher Hardy III and wife, Ann; a sister, Ethel Elsey; grandchildren: Adam Weatherford and wife Amanda, of Richmond, VA, Ashley "Bean" Weatherford, of San Francisco, CA, Tricia Weatherford Gammon and husband Brent, of Daytona Beach, FL; Jeffrey Brookshire, of Charlotte, NC, Michael Brookshire, of Phoenix, AZ, Randall Brookshire, of Atlanta, GA, Jessica Hardy, of Danville, VA, and Will Hardy, III, of Danville, VA; step-grandchildren: Tim Metzer and Courtney Metzer, both of Bryan, TX; and great-grandchildren: Caleb, Natalie, Maci, and Thomas, of Danville, VA. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at Fairview United Methodist Church with Rev. Kathleen Monge and Rev. Linwood Cook officiating. Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 pm on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at Fairview United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park, Danville, VA. At other times, the family will be at the residence: 1833 Blair Loop Rd., Danville, VA. Military Honors by American Legion Post 1097. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Fairview United Methodist Church Friendship class: 1013 Westover Dr., Danville, VA 24540, Danville Life Saving Crew: 202 Christopher Lane, Danville, VA 24540, and the American Heart Association: P O Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23058-5216.
