Dr. David Luan

Dr. David Luan, 95, of Edwardsville, Illinois, born February 18, 1921, in the Shandong province of China, passed away with his dear wife and children at his side on Saturday, June 11, 2016, in St. Louis, Missouri.
David was a loving husband, father and grandfather who was very dedicated to his family. He taught his children the ethics, morals and hard work that they carry on today in their own lives.
Dr. Luan was a Professor of Economics at SIUE, Edwardsville, Illinois, where he also instilled those same qualities in his students. He was more than a teacher; he was a friend, mentor and someone who was highly regarded amongst his colleagues and students. These relationships have been built on respect and after decades were still strong. Dr. Luan was truly a gentleman and will be remembered fondly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wen Fu Luan and Ching Jah Hao Luan and his brother, Dr. Hsiao Wen Luan.
Surviving are his dear loving wife of nearly fifty years, Buo Hwa Luan of Edwardsville, Illinois; his children, Pieter D. Luan and his wife Carla Luan of Houston, Texas; Patricia D. Luan of Cincinnati, Ohio; Edward C. Luan and his wife Jill Birkholz-Luan of Peoria, Illinois; Ellen Luan Chen and her husband Christopher Chen of Oakland, California.; and six grandchildren, Pamela, Joshua, Elsah, Nicholas, Noelle and Autumn.

A celebration of Dr. David Luan's life will be held at 11am, Saturday, July 2, 2016, at Calvary Baptist Church in Edwardsville, Illinois.
