Helen Vieth Obituary

Helen Bartels Vieth, age 83, of Fort Russell Township, died at 12:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2006, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.

She was born on Sept. 11, 1923, in Hamel, the daughter of the late Ferd and Minnie Strohmeier Bartels.

She married Jerome Vieth on April 11, 1942, in Edwardsville. He preceded her in death on July 26, 1993.

She is survived by daughters: Janet Schantz and husband, John of Marine, Darlene Stahlhut and husband, Roy, and Mary Stahlhut and husband, Larry, all of Edwardsville, and Judy Dorner and husband, Doug of Alton; sisters: Bernice Gusewelle and husband, Melvin of Hamel, and Faye McMillin and husband, Roy of Troy; a brother: Kenneth Bartels and wife, Marie of Godfrey; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by brothers: Earl, Alfred and Norman Bartels; and a grandson.

Mrs. Vieth was a cashier at National Food Store in Edwardsville for 30 years. Her memberships included Our Lady Queen of Peace of Bethalto.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 8, at Saksa Mateer Funeral Home in Edwardsville. A prayer service will begin at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 9, at Our Lady Queen of Peace in Bethalto with Fr. Thomas Liebler, pastor, officiating.

Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Edwardsville.

Memorials are suggested to Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Bethalto or Hitz Home in Alhambra.
