I used to play racquetball with Mike before moving away in 1993. He was focused and intense, but always fair and level-headed. Very athletic and very, very hard to beat! I'm saddened to hear of his untimely fate. What a great guy.

Bev,

Words fail me right now. God blessed Randy and I both when he placed you and Mike as our first neighbors, in Richmond VA, back in 1982. We are so lucky to have had the chance get to know both of you. It turned into a long distance, life time friendship. Please know that you and your family are in our hearts and prayers.

Mike brought me to love the sport of cycling.

His generosity, honesty and frienship will always be remembered.

Outside of my family, Mike Pohlman has had more influence on how I live my life than any other person. I admire the priority he placed on family and the way he enjoyed his occupation. I respect Mike beyond what any words can express. I miss him a bunch and I know I am not alone. He was like a big brother to me and I will always cherish the times we had together. I count him among my best friends. My life and the racquetball community will never be the same. I am lucky to have had the chance to be a friend to such a great person. Every time I step on racquetball court I hear his voice... I hope I will always hear it. I will always keep his family in my thoughts and prayers.

I knew Mike back in the early 90's when I worked at The Cyclery, while attending SIUE, which meant setting aside many special orders for him. He was always so upbeat and positve! I am also probably one of thousands he did P.T. on after hours for free. After graduating I stopped in the shop in my brand new Honda Civic. Mike was there so of course had to check out the car, just because he was a car guy and because he knew how excited I was. It was just a Civic, but it just goes to show the kind of character this man was. I am so very sorry to the family.

I knew Mike from playing Raquetball at Southern Illinois University, his presence was dominant yet humble. He was an impressive man and he will truly be missed.

For his family, my thoughts and prayers have been with you since I heard the news. Be strong and continue his life through living your lives. Remember faith and prayer is more powerful than trying to understand why this happen, however God will help you through this difficult time.

On behalf of the entire Armstead family ... our prayers are with you.

Teresa Speaks

May 10, 2006

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

The Pohlman Family,

I have been a patient of Mike's since i was 11 and i live in the neighborhood, and I want to express my deepest sympathies to Mike's family and friends. If i ever needed anything he would just ride his bike to work and help me, he would even meet me at the Y to make sure i was keeping up with what he had taught me over the years. I could tell that Mike cared about his family because that is all he would talk about while he was stretching me. Mike will be greatly missed by everyone he has ever touched.

You have the heart felt condolences of our entire family. I have been a patient of Mike's for the last 20 years and every member of our family has had the benefit of Mike's great skill in our healing. For Mike it was always about the patient with no thoughts of personal inconvience and we will miss him truely. For my husband and I it was more than that, we were the same age, married the same length of time, have children that were similar ages and shared a love of cycling largely due to Mike's influence. God's blessings to you all as we have been blessed in knowing Mike.

To Mike's family and friends: May God provide you the spiritual healing and recovery that Mike has provided so many people, including my daughter and myself, by touching our physical ailments which allowed us to return to our active lifestyles. I will never forget the man who took the EXTRA TIME and effort to craft a "Mike Pohlman" insert pad for my cycling shoe to help me recover from a stress fracture. May God envelope you with His presence and love during your dark hours of recovery. May your "health" return in true Pohlman-like fashion.
