Mildred Katherine Starkey
Bethalto - Mildred Katherine Starkey, age 93, of Bethalto, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, August 12, 2023, at Evelyn's House in St. Louis. She was born November 20, 1929, in Moro, Illinois, the daughter of the late Henry G. & Marie "Mae" (Schmidt) Zoelzer.
Mildred is survived by her daughter, Marla Gibson of Bethalto; grandson, Josh Gibson of Bethalto; two nephews, Tom (Kay) Zoelzer & Bob (Jennie) Zoelzer; & two nieces, Ronna (Greg) Kuehnel & Janice Cooper. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother & sister-in-law, Henry W. Zoelzer, Jr. and wife Darlene, sister & brother-in-law, Irene M. Cooper: & husband Vernon; and nephew Brett Zoelzer.
Mildred worked at Olin Industries in East Alton as a secretary for many years and then went to work as a custodian at the Zion Lutheran Church & School in Bethalto. She loved spending time with her family, gardening, and watching the St. Louis Cardinals.
Mildred was a long-time member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 17, 2023, at Zion Lutheran Church. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church with Rev. Kale Hanson officiating. The burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Bethalto. The family request memorials to Zion Lutheran Church or the 5A's Animal Shelter. Weber & Rodney funeral Home in Edwardsville is in charge of arrangements.
