Norbert Schultz Obituary

Norbert J. Schultz, age 76, of Holiday Shores, died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014 at Alton Memorial Hospital.
He was born April 25, 1937, in Gardener, the son of the late Louis Schultz and Vera (nee Seabert) Schultz.
Mr. Schultz was successful in motivating, teaching and directing music students.
A member of the Music Teachers National Association, Schultz' longest teaching position was for the Edwardsville School District as band and vocal teacher from 1970 to 1985. He taught at the elementary, middle school and high school levels.
He graduated with a bachelor's of science degree in music education from Illinois State University. His first position was as a music teacher at an elementary and high school in Kempton and Cabrey, IL from 1959 to 1961. He continued teaching and directing music as the band and vocal teacher at Taft Grade School, in Lockport from 1963 to 1967, and was later the band director at Lyons School District in Lyons from 1967 to 1970. From 1986 to 1999, Schultz worked as beginning and intermediate band director at Woodward and Shenandoah elementary Schools, in the St. Louis School District. He was also named a team member in a Citizen Ambassador Program Elementary Education Delegation to Vietnam, part of the Eisenhower Award from the University of Toledo in 1994 and was profiled in Marquis Who's Who in America and the World publication 2005 edition.
He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Troy, IL and was the Catholic Music Co-ordinator/Choir Director at Chapel One at Scott Air Force Base.
He is survived by his wife Janet (nee Jenne) Schultz of Holiday Shores; one daughter: Shelly Luppen of Woodbury, Minn.; one step-son: John (Diane) Bracamontes of Granite City; grandchildren: Jake Luppen, John Michael (Jessica) Bracamontes, Joshua (Lauren) Bracamontes and Christine Bracamontes; great-grandchildren; Jackson, Brady and Gordon Bracamontes: sisters: Pat (Jerry) Stanley Rock Falls, June (Jim) Smiley of Las Vegas, Nev., Anita (Ron) Isom of Belleville and Cindy (Richard) Etz of Dunedin, Fla.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter: Sonia Schultz
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Troy with the Rev. Mitchel Schuessler officiating.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 pm Wednesday, Feb. 12, at Richeson F. H. and Thursday 10 to 11 am at St. Paul's Lutheran Church
Interment will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Troy.

I'm not sure if anyone checks this page anymore, but Mr. Schultz popped in my head today and I found this obituary. I had him as my music teacher at Woodward Elementary in St. Louis. I remember him very fondly as not only an introduction to music but to art as well. I imagine his memory is living on in so many student's hearts that he touched. Thank you Mr. Schultz :-)

I remember Norbert well from the 1950s when he, Patricia and Anita performed as The Schultz Kids in my father's amateur hours and on Morris B. Sachs Amateur Hour on television. We had nights of fun together in the Reddick area. My sincerest sympathies to Patricia, Anita and Norbert's family.
