Richard Condrey Obituary
Richard H. Condrey, of Glen Carbon, Illinois, died on September 24, 2010, at his home. ?
He was born December 22, 1935, on the Condrey farm north of Oblong, Illinois. ?
His parents were the late Hamlin and Golden (Richart) Condrey. ?
He is survived by his wife Donna of Glen Carbon; two sons, Frank of Orange County, California and David of Edwardsville; a special daughter, Queenie Phu of Orange County. ?
He is also survived by a sister, Mary Braden of Alton, and a brother, Ralph Condrey of Robinson; and a cousin, Preston Brown of Rapid City, South Dakota. ?
Richard graduated from Dogwood School, Oblong High School, and the University of Illinois. ?He earned advanced degrees from Indiana State University and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
He served as teacher and principal in the Alton elementary public schools.
?Richard refereed high school and junior college basketball for many years. He received many awards, too numerous to mention for his work in education and sports. ?His lifelong interest in the two, and his personal warmth engendered many friendships. ?
He will be remembered with affection for his vitality, enthusiasm, dedication, and optimism. ?Richard was a loving and supportive husband and father. ?He was the ultimate, genuine, all around good-guy. ?
We carry his spirit forward hoping that we can give to others with a generous, kind, and loyal open heart as he did. ?If he could have, he would have said "Goodbye" and "Thanks" to each of you for your role in his life. He loved us and we will miss him. ?He went too soon. We were blessed to have known him. ?His spirit lives on. ??
There will be a memorial service held at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 2, 2010, at New Bethel United Methodist Church in Glen Carbon with Rev. Bill Adams officiating and remembrances by many of his friends.
His cremated remains will be buried at a later date.
Memorials may be given to New Bethel United Methodist Church, 131 North Main Street in Glen Carbon, Illinois 62034 and Unity Hospice, 709 North Bluff Road, Suite 3, Collinsville, Illinois 62234. ?
A memorial service will also be held at Dogwood Methodist Church north of Oblong, Illinois at 2:00 PM Sunday, October 3. 2010.
Weber and Rodney Funeral Home in Edwardsville is in charge of local arrangements.
