Violet Wetzel

Violet Vivian Scheibe Wetzel, age 89, of Edwardsville, died at 8:35 p.m., on Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007, at Eden Village Care Center in Glen Carbon.

She was born on May 4, 1918, in Mt. Olive, the only child of the late Jule and Anna Rademacher Scheibe.

She married Arthur L. Wetzel, on January 27, 1937, in Waterloo, he precedes her in death.

She is survived by four sons: Robert A., and wife Carol, Wetzel, of Edwardsville, Thomas E., and wife Alice, Wetzel of Wood River, Carl R., and wife Donna, Wetzel of Hot Springs, Ark., and David E., and wife Jessica, Wetzel of Alhambra.

Also surviving are eight grandchildren and their families: Andrea Wetzel Darbon, her husband Russell and two children Madison and Lee; Scott Wetzel, his wife Kristi and son Corbin; Stephen Wetzel; grandson Brian, his wife Sara and their children Benjamin, Emily, Elizabeth and Carlos; Kim Wetzel Knoechel, her husband George and their children Sameuel, Grace and Audrey; Jill Wetzel Rice, her husband Russell and their children Joshua, Caleb, Joeseph and Magaret; Dennis Wetzel and Jacob Wetzel and his son Gabriel.

She was a dedicated employee of Edwardsville Community Schools District 7 until her retirement. Her memberships included Eden United Church of Christ, in Edwardsville. She was a member of Eden's Circle No. 3 and for many years served as a Boy Scout and Cub Scout leader. She was also a volunteer at Hitz Home in Alhambra.

Visitation will be conducted from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, at Eden United Church of Christ.

Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, at the church with Rev. John Roberts officiating.

Interment will be at Valley View Cemetery in Edwardsville.

Memorials may be made to Eden Church or Eden Village Care Center.
