On Saturday, Aug. 5, 2017, at the age of 85, Diane M. (Mastrini) Zelinski passed away suddenly at home.
Diane was born in Plains Township on Oct. 25, 1931, to the late Constance (Giuli) Mastrini and Joseph Mastrini.
She was a graduate of Plains Memorial High School and was a seamstress working at local factories throughout her life.
Diane was married to William J. Zelinski, on Oct. 2, 1954, in Sacred Heart Church, Plains Township, where they were faithful members until its closure and merger with Ss. Peter & Paul Church, where she is currently a member.
She loved to express her Italian heritage, which was a significant part of her life, through her wonderful Italian cooking, stories of her family's past and her fluent knowledge of the Italian language. Her greatest love was her grandchildren. She was so very proud of them and played such an important role in their lives. Even though now they are many miles away, she always managed to keep up on what was going on and interject her "Noni advice"!!!
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, William J. Zelinski, on June 8, 2017, and her brothers Louis and Omero Mastrini.
Diane is survived and will be greatly missed by her daughter, Connie Bogumil and her husband, Christopher, of Plains Township; grandsons, Adam Bogumil and his fiancee, Samantha Heck, of Charlotte, N.C.; and Nicholas Bogumil, Ross University, St. Kitts. She will also be greatly missed by her buddies, Marshmellow, Dakota and Hope.
The family wishes to express its sincere gratitude to her PCP, Dr. James Galasso, and his staff for the many years of wonderful care provided to Diane.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2017, in Ss. Peter & Paul Church, 13 Hudson Road, Plains Township, with the Rev. John C. Lambert, pastor, officiating. Interment will be held in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements by the Corcoran Funeral Home Inc., 20 S. Main St., Plains Township.
Diane always had a special place in her heart for animals. The family would appreciate donations in her honor to the SPCA of Luzerne County, 524 E. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.
