TUNKHANNOCK — Philip J. Powell, 84, of Tunkhannock, passed away May 14, 2015, at Tyler Memorial Hospital.
Born on July 30, 1930, in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late Joseph and Mamie Leco Powell.
Prior to retirement, Philip was employed at Procter & Gamble for 32 years. He was a 1952 graduate of Myers High School, a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the Mill City Assembly of God Church.
Philip loved gardening, being outside and eating out. Most of all he loved his family and grandchildren.
Philip is survived by his wife of 58 years, Saundra Andrews Powell; two sons, Philip Powell Jr. and his wife, Cathy, Hershey, Thomas Powell, Lake Winola; three daughters Tabitha and her husband, Troy El, Tunkhannock, Amy and her husband, Michael Nemeth, Iva, South Carolina, and Cathy Gardner, Pittston; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in the Mill City Assembly of God Church, 167 Mercy Lane, Dalton, with the Rev. James G. Rugg presiding. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the services at the church.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Philip's name to the Mill City Assembly of God Church, Box 360, Dalton, PA 18414.
